The Federal Poverty Level (FPL), also known as the “poverty line”, is the amount of annual income received by a household below which they are eligible for certain social benefits.
While the US Census Bureau calculates the poverty threshold, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) publishes the FPL.
The FPL is used to determine eligibility for certain federal and state assistance programs such as housing vouchers, Medicaid, and CHIP.
