• Patience is a temporary deferment of loan payments provided by the lender, instead of forcing the borrower into foreclosure or default.

  • The terms of the abstinence agreement are negotiated between the borrower and the lender.
  • The borrower must demonstrate the need to defer payments, such as financial hardship caused by a serious illness or job loss.
  • Pledgers whose loans are secured by government programs and have been affected by COVID-19 may qualify for assistance.
  • Deferral is available to federal student loan borrowers through December 31, 2022.
