International Banking Services (IBF) allows U.S. depository institutions to offer services to foreign residents and institutions without certain Federal Reserve requirements and certain state and local income taxes.
IBFs allow US institutions to compete more effectively for foreign-sourced deposits and lending business.
Banks may conduct their IBF business from their existing US offices, but they must maintain separate IBF books.
