The Law on the Improvement of National Securities Markets aims to improve the efficiency of the securities market by creating less burdensome and more effective regulation.
The NSMIA has contributed to efficiency gains by reducing interactions between competing regulators, namely between states and the SEC.
NSMIA provisions only exempt “covered” securities (national equities and mutual funds) from state regulation.
