Unicorn is a term used in the venture capital industry to describe a start-up company valued at over $1 billion. The term was first coined by venture capitalist Eileen Lee in 2013. Some popular unicorns include SpaceX, Robinhood and Instacart. As of March 2022, there are over 1,000 unicorn companies in the world.
