• The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967 is a law that prohibits employment decisions (e.g. hiring, promotions) based on age. This applies to employees or job seekers aged 40 or over, as well as companies with 20 or more employees. ADEA defines various remedies if a firm is found to have violated the law. Some of these include: hiring a discriminated candidate, reinstatement of a terminated employee and payment of wage arrears, forfeiture, “advance” payment until the employee reaches the age of 70, legal fees and attorneys’ fees.
