• The American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM) is a non-profit professional association whose members are usually medical directors of insurance companies. AAIM members may be hired by the insurance company for underwriting and claims settlement and disability management consultants. Other roles include medical and actuarial research, development of underwriting guidelines, health education and care for workers, and liaison with the medical community, legislators and regulators. AAIM believes that medical science, especially the science of mortality and morbidity, is the foundation for the practice of insurance medicine. Insurance medicine professionals should use this science to support the insurance industry in providing fair and accurate pricing, underwriting and claims handling for their clients.
