• The Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary program for communities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The purpose of the CRS is to increase awareness of flood insurance, reduce flood losses, and increase the accuracy of the insurance rating. The main way CRS reduces losses is by providing incentives (i.e. premium discounts) for communities to go beyond the minimum requirements for floodplain management by developing additional flood protection measures. In order for a community to qualify for CRS, it must be fully compliant with all aspects of the NFIP.
