• A designated pollutant is an air pollutant that is neither a criterion nor a hazardous pollutant as described in the Clean Air Act, but for which there are new source performance standards. The Clean Air Act requires states to control these pollutants, including acid fog, total reduced sulfur (TRS) and fluorides.
