• Experience rating is, in relation to workers’ compensation, a method by which the insured’s actual loss experience is compared to the loss experience that would normally be expected from other risks in the insured’s rating class. The resulting experience modification factor is then applied to the insured person’s premium. In other lines of accidents, the insured’s actual loss experience is usually compared with the actual loss experience from risks in the same industry to again develop a modifying factor to apply to the insured’s premium.
