• Risk rating is a rating method usually applied to excess of loss reinsurance whereby the rate is determined based on an analysis of the inherent risk of the business to be covered, rather than on the loss experience the business has demonstrated in the past. The reinsurance underwriter may use both risk rating and loss rating to determine the quoted price.
