• The Financial Action Against Terrorism Act (FATA or PATRIOT Act) of 2001 imposes new record keeping and government reporting requirements for banks, certain other financial institutions and non-financial businesses in relation to certain customer financial transactions and financial records. It was added to the Bank Secrecy Act as an attempt to help fight terrorism and money laundering. The International Money Laundering and Financial Terrorism Act of 2001 is Title III of the US PATRIOT Act of 2001.
