• Formularies are the purpose of drug formularies in workers’ compensation to ensure that injured people receive the most suitable medication for their condition at the correct dosage. Drug formularies originated in the field of group health care and were primarily a way to cut costs as far as personal expenses are concerned. There are different levels to help patients choose the best medicine with the goal of finding the least expensive one. Since workers’ compensation usually does not include co-payments, the goal in many jurisdictions is clinical effectiveness, i.e., finding a cure that will produce the best outcome for the injured worker and get him or her back to function and ultimately back to work.
