• Construction means and methods is a term used in construction to describe the methods and tactics (usually temporary structures) that a contractor uses to complete the construction of a permanent project or structure. In some cases, these actions may require design or engineering elements; erecting scaffolding for a specific purpose, calculations to support trenching/support works, or designing associated with tower crane bases are just a few examples of such “tools and methods”. Generally, the means and methods of construction are considered to be covered by general liability (GL) policies, but the lack of coverage for economic damage makes insurance of this occupational risk under the GL policy only semi-effective. Contractors can obtain broader coverage for these activities by purchasing contractors’ professional liability insurance.
