• The Meredith Principles are the concepts that underlie workers’ compensation systems in Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories. These principles were contained in the Meredith Report, compiled by Sir William Meredith in 1913. As stated in this document, employers fund the workers’ compensation system in exchange for immunity from lawsuits arising from work-related injuries. In exchange for waiving their rights to sue employers or other workers protected under the Workers Compensation Act, workers receive injury benefits, regardless of fault.
